word for the year

Shine 2013
Several years ago when our family was having an extremely hard year, I picked a word to focus on that could get me thru.  I knew that with HOPE, and a little time things be less painfull, not work themselves out, but that they actually were already worked out and all I had to do was trust and wait.  Thats what faith is.  So I waited and things did go a different way, and now our family, collectively is in a very good place, instead of a difficult one.  We picked a word to use for 2010, together as a family, and so on since then.
Hope
Vision
Light
Grow
In 2012 after we found our word, we were working on a family mission statement.  Do families have a purpose?  It is supposed to be more that soccer games, ballet and whats on the netflix queue?  Are there things we are missing?  Maybe we have some balanced priorities, or maybe, because we went to church every Sunday, and we homeschool and we raise our family on a little farm, maybe...we just think we do, because it looks like it to other people and then we believe it ourselves??
While we pondered this, we researched other families statements, they were pretty, and well written and I think it intimidated us. Our search was halted and no one really thought about the statement anymore. Then one day, as my handsome hubby sent one of the children to "the door" to read the painted verses there, I realized that we did have a statement after all, and it didn't need our agonizing over getting the right wording, and it didn't need to be photoshopped, because one of the children had already painted it on the door.
Philippians 2:15-16
do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God, without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Perfect!
